Help Article: Understanding Video Editor Error Messages
Introduction
This help article explains common error messages you may encounter while using our Video Editor. For each error message, you will find an explanation of why the error occurs and steps to resolve it.
Slide Errors
Slide is missing duration
- Why this occurs: All slides must have a duration to be displayed in the rendered video. To determine this duration, we generate a narration audio using our Text-To-Speech feature and determine the time it takes to narrate the slide.
- How to fix: Add or adjust narration text and preview the video. This should begin generating new audio for the scene which will refresh the durations of all slides in the scene.
Slide duration is too long
- Why this occurs: Slides must meet certain requirements to render properly
- How to fix: Remove some narration from the slide or split the slide's narration into multiple slides and preview the video. This should begin generating new audio for the scene which will refresh the durations of all slides in the scene.
Slide duration is too short
- Why this occurs: Slides must meet certain requirements to render properly. If the slide is too short, it may not appear in the video at all.
- How to fix: Add more narration text to the slide or merge it with adjacent slides to meet the minimum duration requirements. Then, preview the video. This should begin generating new audio for the scene which will refresh the durations of all slides in the scene.
Slide has no display text
- Why this occurs: When a new slide is created, by default it has no display text.
- How to fix: Either replace the media on the slide by drag/drop from our media library or click inside the slide's display text and change it to something else.
Media asset is not valid
- Why this occurs: When a video is rendered, the media items in the video are checked to make sure they're still available. This error occurs if the media asset was corrupted or our system can no longer access it.
- How to fix: Replace the media asset on the slide with a new one or remove the media entirely and the slide will be converted into a text slide.
Scene Errors
Scene has too many slides
- Why this occurs: Scenes take time to render. If too many slides are in the scene, the render would take much longer. To optimize the time it takes to render scenes, we've limited the number of slides a scene can have.
- How to fix: Delete some slides from the current scene or move them to a different scene with the rearrange buttons. The editor has a bulk select & delete feature as well!
Scene has no audio narration
- Why this occurs: All scenes have audio narration generated when the video is previewed. If you have not previewed your video or the audio generation failed, this error can occur.
- How to fix: Make sure the scene has at least one slide, change the narration text on a slide in the scene and preview the video. Audio generation should begin.
Scene duration doesn't match slides
- Why this occurs: If audio generation fails or the generated audio is corrupt, the scene's duration may be incorrect.
- How to fix: Change some narration text on a slide in the scene and preview the video. The narration audio will be regenerated and the duration of the scene & its slides will be updated.
Scene has an invalid theme
- Why this occurs: The theme used for the video is no longer available.
- How to fix: Go to the video settings and choose a different theme.
Video Errors
Video is already rendering
- Why this occurs: Videos take some time to render (~20 minutes). During this process, they can't be re-rendered until the existing render is finished.
- How to fix: Wait until the current rendering process is complete before attempting to render the video again.
Video needs at least one valid scene
- Why this occurs: To render a video, the video must have at least one scene and all scenes in the video must be error-free. If your video has no scenes, then the video cannot be rendered. Likewise, if even one scene has an error, the video also cannot be rendered.
- How to fix: Add a scene to your video. Fix any errors your existing scenes might have, such as having an invalid template, too many slides, or slides with errors.
Voiceover-Specific Errors
Video is longer than the voiceover
- Why this occurs: Slide duration is easily controlled through sliders. If the total duration of slides doesn't match that of the audio recording, then the video cannot be rendered.
- How to fix: Adjust the duration of your slides so that the total video length matches the length of the voiceover.
Video is shorter than the voiceover
- Why this occurs: Slide duration is easily controlled through sliders. If the total duration of slides doesn't match that of the audio recording, then the video cannot be rendered.
- How to fix: Extend the duration of your slides so that the total video length matches the length of the voiceover.
Video has no narration
- Why this occurs: Voiceover videos require an audio recording provided by the user. This error occurs when that audio recording is invalid or missing.
- How to fix: First attempt to fix is simply refreshing the page and checking if the error goes away; this means your video is saved correctly in our database but the error was from something temporary! If refreshing the page does not help, you can contact support to look into the issue further or create a new video with the audio recording you wish to use.
